Ireland is a fantastic country to work in as a pharmacist - from being one of the top paying countries in the world, to benefits such as 20 days minimum holidays. If you’re considering relocating, the first thing a pharmacist will need to do is register with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI).
Registering with the PSI is a 2 step process. Firstly you will need to apply for your recognition of qualifications, and secondly, you will need to apply to register.
Step 1: Application for Recognition of Qualification
Applying for qualification recognition under the EU route of registration will take about 4-6 weeks in total, if done correctly. You will need to complete the following steps:
Create an account on the PSI online registration portal
Submit your details and all necessary documents
Pay the registration fee directly and securely online.
→ The portal contains instructions and information videos to assist you with your application.
Step 2: Applying for Registration
Once you receive your Qualification Recognition Certificate, you can submit your application to register as a pharmacist with the PSI. Go to “Home” and click “Registration” - Create a new application for registration by following the steps below:
Review your personal and contact information
Complete all the questions
Upload the required documents
Complete all the declarations
Complete payment using a debit or credit card
After this, you will also receive an email and portal notification to confirm successful submission of the application to the PSI. Following review of the application by the PSI you will receive a decision by email and in the portal.
Successful applications will be registered in the register of pharmacists. Your registration has to be renewed yearly (More information about renewal of your registration HERE).
You will also be required to get a Statutory Declaration at the very end of the process.
If you’re already in Ireland, any solicitor’s will be able to provide you with this document (if you’re in Dublin, we can give you a specific solicitor’s contact details and address)
If you’re still based in your own country, you can get this declaration in the Irish embassy
Note: Statutory Declaration is only valid for 3 months.
